Is There Such a Thing as Massage Addiction?

"You do anything long enough to escape the habit of
living until the escape becomes the habit."
- David Ryan

Is There Really?
I have a client who'd never forego his frequent massage appointment no matter what, even against all weather! Makes you wonder: Is there such a thing as massage addiction?

If you are diverting valuable efforts, time and finances to getting regular massages at the expense of your more important needs, then it is the poor choice that actually harmed you, not the massage in itself! Bob Hope gets a massage everyday and he lived to a 100 years! And he attributes it to that daily routine and healthy living!
I do not think that there is such a thing as a Massage addiction, for two things - First: addiction is often associated to what is regarded as a negative habit - smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, excessive gambling, etc. If you get massages everyday for the rest of your life then there is a chance that you can end up like Bob Hope - you have a healthy daily routine! Assuming of course that you can afford them like he did, and you combine them with a healthy lifestyle and choices!
And second, addiction can also refer to moments that give people a "rush" of some kind. Running, or any high impact sports, bungee jumping, sky diving, etc. But the act of being pampered into a slumber is VERY FAR from a "rush". It actually counteracts the hormone (adrenaline) you can get during a rush! A soothing and healthy massage will get you all "relaxed" not  "hyped". Rush: more on the "fight or flight" and massage... you've guessed it! Rest and Digest! (Details here)
The bottom line is: we Human beings are programmed to be social, we seek community and we seek the company of others. And "touch" is one of our most primal need. Massage - a caring and compassionate touch, purposely touch, whether for medical or emotional reason is a positive and healing way for someone - by someone.
In our society where touching is either avoided, stigmatized, discouraged or legislated against, in this modern environment where stressors are left and right, could there be anything more comforting than a non-sexual, healing, pampering massage...  If you have the means and the time to get it everyday, then good for you! Go for it!
